What unfolds when playwrights bring their scripts into a room full of curious and creative theatre-makers? How can fresh perspectives from fellow writers and dramaturgs help a script grow? We’re excited to bring you the second edition of our Playwright–Dramaturg Sharing & Social, a cosy, no-pressure evening focused on sharing work, exchanging thoughts, and seeing where the conversation takes us.
This time, we’re centring the session around a Community Script Circle, where two works-in-progress by playwrights will be read aloud and explored in conversation with fellow writers and dramaturgs. Participants will have the chance to submit an excerpt of their script, and two will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis to be part of the discussion!
Come meet our Dramaturgs-in-Residence, learn how to Engage-a-Dramaturg, and connect with a vibrant community of theatre-makers over drinks, snacks, and plenty of script talk.

Facilitator Juliet Chia opened the evening by introducing participants to the structure of the sharing and social, including the rules of engagement for the community script circle.

Excerpts from two plays were read and discussed - Slippery as an Egg by Christian Yeo and The Girl from Suteretsu Brothel No 8 by Adeline Foo. Participants shared their thoughts about the plays, including what they resonated with, what distracted them, questions they had for the playwrights, and more.

Following the script circle, interested participants also had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with our Dramaturgs-in-Residence. These intimate conversations allowed participants to find out more about their dramaturgical practice and the ways in which they could work with these dramaturgs, such as Centre 42's Engage-a-Dramaturg programme.

Participants were also able to mingle with each other and start their own conversations over refreshments. Centre 42 hopes that this social provided opportunities for mutual learning and productive conversations, and we look forward to hosting more socials in the near future!
